V-22 Can't Fly More Than 30 Minutes Away
V-22s are no longer barred from flying, but they are now operating with a restriction that significantly affects their ability to carry out the mission.
Military.com just broke the news that the Osprey is only allowed to fly within 30 minutes of a “suitable airfield.”
Ward explores what this means to the U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

Why Did the Israelis Strike an Aid Convoy in Gaza?
Просмотров 48 тыс.Месяц назад
The IDF has just released its preliminary report following a drone attack on a World Central Kitchen convoy in Gaza on April 1 that killed 7 aid workers. So was the targeting simply a function of the fog ...

The Greyhound is the only thing that is reliable and safe enough to carry out the mission tgat the various V-22's are supposed to perform... A 60 year old aircraft that is seriously out-performing a high-tech problematic aurcraft... What is wrong with this picture??? Over-engineering... I absolutely do not know Why nobody adopted the extremely reliable and fast Fairey Roto-Dyne Gyro-copter!!! Designed and proven and manufactured back in the mid 1950's... THAT is the Machine that is needed to replace the over-engineered un reliable and PROHIBITIVELY EXPEN$IVE V-22 AIRCRAFT... PLEASE don't forget about the 19 Marines who were killed in Marana, Az over 24 years ago... Jyst stop making them... Go to more conventional designs... If I was in the Office to decide what to replace it with, I'd first extend the life of the Greyhounds, Then re-Activate a production line for the Fairey Roto-Dynes, and similar designs... Be thankful that Westland Aircraft corp (Who stopped Fairey from producing Roto Dynes) finally went defunct back in 2000...

Objective truthful awareness refers to the pursuit of understanding reality as it truly is, without biases, distortions, or subjective interpretations. It involves striving to perceive facts, events, and phenomena accurately, without being swayed by personal beliefs, emotions, or preconceived notions. This concept often intersects with critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and a commitment to seeking evidence-based knowledge. ~ ChatGPT

Its a lemon. If its suffering like this outside of sustained combat how is it going to do in serious combat in a drone prolific environment. Imagine 10 years from now we are still running these things around near the front lines. The enemy combatants will be sending drones after them all the time. If someone can fire 20 drones at it and those drones cost a tiny percentage of the cost for the osprey and the men onboard its going to be a prime target. After a few losses they will get pulled back and then you wont see them being used for the mission anyway. To be clear Im not certain the years of large numbers of soldiers loaded in aircraft at lower altitudes anywhere near the front lines has much time left as a viable solution to any mission. Drones are going to be mass produced and stockpiled in ever larger numbers. Unless you can defeat them rapidly in large numbers they are going to reach the target. The only real question is the costs for the drones exceed the cost for the target. That calculation will not be done on a dollar basis but on a battlefield impact and sustainability basis. If you can replace but 50 aircraft a year and I can replace the drones used to kill 5000 aircraft in that same year there is a problem. I dont blame them for developing this. I dont blame them for trying to stick with it until a solution is reached, but I do blame them for not seeking an alternative. A lot more people will die on this before they retire it if it stays in service for many more years.

I am disappointed there is no fixed wing replacement for the COD C-2...even a modernanized C-2 would be great for the fleet. While I understand the C-22 is great for amphibians mini carriers but not having an equivalent and capable replacement for the Greyhound is going to be a serious issue for the Navy in the not distant future.

Most drones have four propellers and four engines. This design was tested again and again and shows that it is the most stable, reliable, dependable, or also can get out of jam in case of one engine/propeller failure. Even the civilian market is developing this design further as future air taxis. Innovation is good, but perhaps we should seriously stop using our servicemen as guinea pigs.

I was an active, albeit low time, helicopter/airplane pilot "for fun" when the V-22 was being rolled out. I predicted, somewhat incorrectly, that the aircraft would be a big failure - I don't like anything with a rotor that can't really auto-rotate in an emergency. But, the long game seems to be rolling around to effectively the same result. In the meantime, how many taxpayer dollars have gone into this thing? (Rhetorical; I don't really want to know.) This aircraft is the Military-Industrial Complex at its best/worst.

There’s a lot of discussion about the mishap rate of the V-22 being nothing special and that the concerns about it being overblown and similar to other rotorcraft which are inherently less safe than their fixed wing cousins. Is this a “lies, damned lies, and statistics” situation where the way the V-22 is being used intentionally reduces the risk of operations and that even with special controls it still crashes that often?
